Introduction

2025 was a year of resilience for The Cup That Counts. In a volatile coffee market and a tough economic climate, our community raised $98,275 to support the people and projects at the heart of coffee.

Most of that came through Commonfolk, from every brewed cup and every kilo of roasted coffee sold. The rest came from donations, fundraising events, staff tips and our annual Good Coffee campaign.

$65,100 went directly to Zukuka Bora on Mt Elgon, Uganda, funding an expanded roastery, café and office, plus better storage and drying infrastructure. Through Kua Coffee, a further $11,735 was raised for Zukuka Bora's endemic tree nursery, which distributes around 65,000 trees to farmers each year.

We launched Origin Loans, an impact lending program that pre-finances Zukuka Bora's harvest, with VivCourt and Church by the Bay among the first partners. Closer to home, we kept backing Home Ground's youth traineeship program on the Mornington Peninsula. In Kenya, a grant to Vava Coffee trained 22 young people in practical coffee skills.

And the Every Cup Counts documentary premiered, screening across Victoria, NSW and Uganda.
